The long, narrow top rests on slender, naturally irregular legs joined by simple stretchers, giving the piece the wonderfully primitive character of traditional Chinese country furniture. Generations of use have softened the elm to a pale, weathered finish, revealing the natural grain, knots, worn edges, and subtle imperfections of the old wood.

With its narrow 16-inch depth, this console is an easy piece to incorporate into an entryway, behind a sofa, along a hallway, or beneath a favorite painting or mirror. The restrained form and organic character of the aged elm give it a sculptural quality that works beautifully in Santa Fe, farmhouse, mountain modern, minimalist, or contemporary interiors.
